What are the important design features for creating a traditional bathroom?
If you want your bathroom to have a traditional style, and suit the period of your property, there are a number of things you should consider. These include:
- The bathroom fixtures- Key bathroom fixtures, like toilets, sinks and baths should be selected in a traditional design. This generally means choosing a free-standing bath where possible, with slipper baths and roll top baths being very effective. For toilets, close coupled toilets are the most visually effective selection for a traditional space, with a sink basin selected to match. Traditional style fixtures tend to be available in a wider choice of shape and pattern than contemporary style fixtures, and may include rounded or scalloped edges, or even wooden design features.
- The bathroom furniture- Bathroom furniture like storage chests, drawers, cabinets and even seating should be traditional in design, with inlaid doors and detailed finishes an important visual touch to really complete the traditional style design.
- The finishing touches– Finally, the finishing touches can really complete your bathroom with style. From handles and taps, to tiles and accessories, you should be sure to choose these in a traditional style. These tend to be more detailed and intricate than contemporary finishings, and for tiles, patterned tiles can be very effective.
